Community arts initiative officially inaugurated by Her Highness Sayyida Aliya Bint Thuwainy Bin Shihab Al Said
City Centre Qurum and City Centre Muscat, Majid Al Futtaim’s leading lifestyle destinations in the Sultanate, jointly hosted an official ceremony to launch an aspirational arts initiative, the Art of C which aims to promote Oman’s thriving arts culture. The event, which took place earlier today was formally inaugurated under the auspices of Her Highness Sayyida Aliya Bint Thuwainy Bin Shihab Al Said, who inscribed the first wish to His Majesty, Sultan Qaboos on a blank C-shaped dedicated canvas on the occasion of the 44th National Day. The ceremony was also attended by Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager for City Centre Muscat and Watfa Humaid Al Harthy, Senior Mall Manager for City Centre Qurum and Maryam Al Zadjali, President of the Omani Society for Fine Arts. The Art of C will be hosted until October 30th, during which City Centre malls will host live workshops where 44 C-shaped canvases will be transformed into inspiring works of art.
“The Art of C is a unique community-driven interactive arts workshop and City Centre malls are pleased to be providing a platform for local artists to showcase their talent and create great moments in art and culture for everyone” said Husam Al Mandhari, Senior Mall Manager for City Centre Muscat.
For the Art of C, City Centre Qurum and City Centre Muscat have partnered with the Omani Society for Fine Arts in a unique collaboration that will unite seasoned Omani artists with emerging talent from the community. With the shared vision to nurture creativity and celebrate the arts, The Art of C brings together the collective talents of seven renowned Omani artists: Anwar Sonia, Abdul Majeed Karo, Mohammed Shaml, Ali Khalfan Al Marshoodi, Iftikhar Al Badawi, Salim Sakhi and Maryam Al Zadjali. Under their mentorship, are 35 aspiring talents from the community including art students, children and housewives whose creative works of art were selected by the Omani Society for Fine Arts, through an open submission process earlier this month.
“Oman’s local arts culture is emerging, and City Centre malls are proud to showcase the calibre of our renowned artists, and provide aspiring talent with the opportunity to mentor under them. Our collaboration with the Omani Society for Fine Arts is invaluable to the Art of C, and we are thrilled to see the final masterpieces unveiled,” said Watfa Humaid Al Harthy, Senior Mall Manager for City Centre Qurum.
From now until October 27th between 3:00pm and 10:00pm the community can visit City Centre Qurum or City Center Muscat to observe the splendours of ‘art in motion’ as the many C-shaped sculptures transform into artistic masterpieces. Drawing upon Oman’s culture and heritage as inspiration, the artists are then left to their creative minds to produce inspired works of art using any method and material including paint, pastels, embellishments and gems. The final Closing Ceremony on October 30th will celebrate the final pieces of ‘C’ artworks as a symbol of community, with a jury panel from the Omani Society for Fine Arts rewarding the most three creative pieces from the emerging artists, based on technique, interpretation and creativity.
Throughout the Art of C initiative, two large C-shaped canvases will be prominently placed in City Centre Qurum and City Centre Muscat which are dedicated in honour of the 44th National Day in Oman. Dignitaries and local celebrities are invited to draft handwritten and personalised messages of congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos, who will be gifted with the final piece.
City Centre malls are also creating great moments for its social media fans who are encouraged to post Instagram photos of their favourite C-shaped artwork and using the hashtags: #CCMArtOfC and #CCQArtOfC and by tagging @citycentremuscat and @citycentrequrum to win exciting prizes.
